Stitch And Glue Epoxy Resin
Basic "stitch-and-glue" manual this manual describes the building of a small boat by the "stitch-and-glue" method, also known fibreglass tape and epoxy resin. the hull of the boat takes shape in a matter of a few hours for smaller boats. no beveling of the frames is needed. precise fits are not necessary.. The stitch and glue canoe building method is an easy and affordable way for a beginning canoeist to make his or her own boat. basically, the technique consists of gluing panels of plywood together using epoxy and fiberglass.. Epoxy is a relatively recent invention, and literally thousands of 'stitch 'n glue' boats were built in the 60's and 70's with glass tape and polyester resin..
Wayne, as you say the chine log runs longitudinally, along the joint between two planks and holds them together in glued construction, just like as the glass tape and an epoxy fillet do in a stitch and glue boat.. Stitch and glue 101 - frames & fiberglass. bottom panel installation: carefully flip the whole assembly, bottom side up: -prime the hull with epoxy resin.-apply epoxy glue to the edge of the frame (batten).-install the frame in the hull.-remove the excess resin that comes out of the glued joint.. Stitch and glue 101 - fairing & sanding. finish fairing: before fairing, check that all surfaces inside and outside are coated with epoxy resin. fairing is not absolutely required. if you are satisfied with a work boat finish, a quick sanding and paint will be sufficient but most builders will fair to a certain degree for a better finish.
